G’day Candy Lovers,
We love candy. It’s no secret. We love searching for the best candy that the world has to offer and sometimes it literally does come from the other side of the planet, in biscuit form. Although biscuits may not technically be candy, the delicious ones that are covered in chocolate definitely have a place in the Cybercandy kingdom. This week, I’d like to introduce you to a gorgeous chocolate covered biscuit-y dream from the very heart of Australia…
Arnott’s Tim Tam
As you may or may not know, the Australian people are a modest bunch, even though they have much to boast about – the constant sunshine, the beautiful scenery and the cool accent. However, there is a biscuit, a delicious chocolate malted biscuit sandwich with a creamy chocolate centre – the most famous biscuit that our friends down under have to offer.
Remarkably similar to the often overlooked Penguin that we know and love in the UK, the Tim Tam is slightly smaller and lighter but has the same chocolatey smoothness as a bar of galaxy. It is said that the inventor of the Tim Tam actually modelled the Australian biscuit on the Penguin, and just made it… better.
What’s more, there is a secret to the Tim Tam. We don’t know how it came about or who the originator was, but rumour has it that sometime in the 1960′s there were a group of bored Australians who were trying to invent different ways to dunk a Tim Tam into a cup of coffee. They could never have predicted that their actions on that day would be replicated over 50 years later. It’s called the Tim Tam Slam and we’re going to clue you in, right now…
- Grab yourself a Tim Tam and a cup of coffee (or tea, or even hot milk if you prefer)
- Bite off each end, keeping the bitten edges as straight as possible
- Quickly suck up the hot drink through the creamy centre of the biscuit and pop the whole thing in your mouth
- Enjoy the chocolate explosion!
Here’s a video demonstration from a true expert.
’til next week, keep being sweet!
