Buenos Dias Candy Comrades,
As a lover of the sweet stuff, have you ever wondered about the candy from across the pond? Yes, I’m talking about American candy; the deliciousness made in the US of A that we so crave in the Cybercandy kingdom. We get asked about our range of American sweets and chocolate on a daily basis, so I thought I’d clue you in on what’s hot! Are you ready? Here we go!
The Hershey Company is the largest chocolate manufacturer in North America and has been making their distinctive taste of Hershey’s chocolate heaven for over a hundred years! Most famous for the Hershey’s chocolate bar, Reese’s Pieces and Hershey’s Kisses – 80 million of which are manufactured every day!
Did you know that Hershey’s also manufacture Rolo and Kit Kat in the United States and have bought the rights to distribute lots of Cadbury products across North America, including the Crème Egg? I guess it’s only fair that we Brits share our candy with the Americans; after all, we couldn’t live without peanut butter… could we?
Baby Ruth Bars
Nestle Baby Ruth bars are an American staple. There’s no doubt about it. Much like the Snickers bar that we all know and love, Baby Ruth is packed with peanuts, gorgeous caramel and yummy chocolate flavoured nougat, covered in delicious Nestle milk chocolate.
Baby Ruth is most recognised for its association with baseball and it is a popular belief that it was named after the famous baseball player, Babe Ruth. Originally however, the Curtiss Company (Baby Ruth’s original manufacturer), claimed that it actually named the American candy bar after President Cleveland’s daughter. We also saw Baby Ruth make its name as a film star in the Goonies! Don’t remember it? Take a look…
Filling lunch boxes from Washington to West Virginia since 1932, the Twinkie is probably America’s most iconic cream filled cakey treat. It has become such a heroic snack that President Clinton even put one in a time capsule! Let’s hope it was frozen, that way the future evolution of the human species will have something to snack on when they dig it up.
Have you heard about the new chocolate crème Twinkies? Oh yes my candy loving friends. Chocolate. Crème. Twinkies. Three words that should definitely appear together in the dictionary under the definition of ‘Yum!’
Another hero of the American lunch box, the Tootsie Roll is a chewy roll of chocolate candy that has been made to the same recipe since 1896! It was also the first penny candy ever to be introduced to America, by none other than an Austrian immigrant. Every single day there are now more than 64 million Tootsie Rolls manufactured, and it’s not just across the Atlantic where they are a favourite candy treat – Cybercandy fans love ‘em too!
A line up of American greats wouldn’t be complete without the world famous Wonka megabrand. Even if you’ve never heard of Nerds or Laffy Taffy, you must have been living under a rock if you’ve never seen either of the infamous Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film adaptations of Roald Dahl’s classic tale.
Now owed by Nestle, the Wonka candy brand is responsible for some of the most popular American sweets in the land of Cybercandy, including Sploshberries and Pixie Stix. Who else would come up with such fantabulous names for candy? It has to Wonka!
