American Sweets

Buenos Dias Candy Comrades,

As a lover of the sweet stuff, have you ever wondered about the candy from across the pond? Yes, I’m talking about American candy; the deliciousness made in the US of A that we so crave in the Cybercandy kingdom. We get asked about our range of American sweets and chocolate on a daily basis, so I thought I’d clue you in on what’s hot! Are you ready? Here we go!

Hershey’s
The Hershey Company is the largest chocolate manufacturer in North America and has been making their distinctive taste of Hershey’s chocolate heaven for over a hundred years! Most famous for the Hershey’s chocolate bar, Reese’s Pieces and Hershey’s Kisses – 80 million of which are manufactured every day!

Did you know that Hershey’s also manufacture Rolo and Kit Kat in the United States and have bought the rights to distribute lots of Cadbury products across North America, including the Crème Egg? I guess it’s only fair that we Brits share our candy with the Americans; after all, we couldn’t live without peanut butter… could we?

Get your Geek On!

Hey Candy Geeks,

On May 25th it’s Geek Pride Day and we’re calling out geeks from every corner of the universe to help us celebrate! Heralded by geeks and nerds all over the world, Geek Pride Day is a creative celebration of geek culture, obsession and general geeky coolness. To make the day even sweeter, it’s now all about the candy too!

What is Geek Pride Day?
Let your geek flag fly because there really is a day named in your honour my geeky friends! It’s been celebrated every year on May 25th since 2006 (although the very first Geek Pride Festival was held in Albany and started by New Yorker Tim McEachern in 1998), to commemorate the première of the first Star Wars movie in 1977.

Coincidently, May 25th is also the date of ‘Towel Day’, which celebrates Douglas Adams and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy trilogy, and the ‘Glorious 25th of May’ for superfans of Terry Pratchett.

One for All and All for Chocolate!

Bonjour Candy Fans,

There are few things I love as much as chocolate. In fact, there are few things I love more than candy in general, but chocolate is most definitely my main weakness. It’s like Duff beer and donuts to Homer Simpson…. Mmm Duff….

I also love movies. What in the world is better than curling up for a good movie with a lovely selection of (Cyber)candy and a couple of delicious sodas? Not a lot amigo’s, not a lot at all… So, when we come across a chocolate bar from across the pond that’s inspired by one of the great classic stories of all time, how on earth can we possibly resist it? No no no, we really can’t!

The 3 Musketeers is the reinvention of a chocolate bar that’s been around in the US since 1932. Back then it was in fact three separate chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavoured pieces. I wonder which one was Aramis…hmm, something to ponder.

Over the years as the chocolate piece of the trio became the most popular, it developed into a delicious single bar with a fluffy, whippy, creamy centre that reminds us of a Milkyway. To see if this Musketeer bar of chocolate heaven could inspire the good people of London to whip out their fencing swords, we donned our blue tunics, curled the ends of our moustaches and sent a couple of these delicious milkyway-like treats to our good friend Marcus at Choc It Out!

If you’re not familiar with Choc It Out! then wander on over to their YouTube channel which is chocked full of delicious reviews, including many sweet candy greats, in an attempt to unite the world through chocolate. They get the Cybercandy vote!

Marcus took the 3 Musketeers bar onto the streets at the end of March (before the rain came sloshing down), to get the general view on this bar of deliciousness. Before we show the verdict, can you name all three Musketeers? Go on, have a try… and no Google cheating!

Fancy a more exotic flavour of Musketeer? You’re in luck, it’s also available in coconut. Now that’s a swashbuckling bar of yumtastic!

‘til next week , keep being sweet!
