Chases Cherry Mash Chases Cherry Mash: The year was 1876; America was celebrating its 100th birthday, Custer had trouble with his Little Big Horn and Alexander Graham Bell had made his famous call to Mr. Watson. Meanwhile in the small town of St. Joseph, Dr. GW Chase had opened a small shop to suplement his meager doctors wages. His teenage son Ernest persuaded him to hire two expert candy makers to set up a candy factory on the second floor of their store. The idea worked and before long the demand for Chase’s fine confections led the family to specialize in candy making. Around 1918 Chase formulated the 'Cherry Chase' consisting of a quarter pound mound of chopped roasted peanuts blended with chocolate coating over a smooth cherry fondant center. It then changed it's name to the Cherry Chaser before becoming the Cherry Mash we know today. |
