Carambar Caramel Carambar Caramel: Carambar is a French classic. It was invented in 1954 in Marcy-en-Baroeul, a small town in Northern France, by Monsieur Gallois and Monsieur Fauckille Jnr, of the Delespaul-Havez company. A very chewy caramel, it also comes in a variety of flavours. In 1969 the tradition of putting a joke on the wrapper was born. These 'Blagues tordantes' ('Mirth to make you writhe') make Christmas cracker jokes look like cutting edge alternative comedy. Here is an example: 'Roger, get up, you have to go to school' 'No! I don't want to go! They're all horrible to me! 'Come come Roger, you have to go - after all, you're the Headmaster!' Beum beum. But a yummy dark caramel.
