Ramune - Original Soda

Ok it's not candy but it's sweet and it's fascinating. Ramune is a very popular drink in Japan like lemonade, but not quite. Though what's particularly interesting about this product is the bottle and how you open it. Instead of a bottle cap this fizzy drink is sealed with a glass marble stuck inside the bottle. The pressure of fizzy drink keeps the marble in place until you want a drink. Then you remove the special opening device which comes with the bottle and use it to push the marble out of the way inside the bottle. There are the two little glass bobbles inside which then hold the marble out of the way while you drink your Ramune. Utterly confused? Then you'll have to see for yourself. The bottle makes a great talking piece after you drunk the drink.

4 out of 5 stars refreshing soda, AWESOME BOTTLE 12 Feb, 2010
Reviewer: Charlie from London
The coolest thing about Ramune is the bottle - it was (I know this sounds sad) fun to open. There are lots of videos on youtube of people trying to open the bottles and failing (hilariously).

4 out of 5 stars Rad bottle, shame about the soda. 12 Mar, 2009
Reviewer: Sam from Nottingham
Yeah, the bottle is really cool. Not really that hard to get into though... Awesome to have in the fridge! Shame about the taste, a bit weak, nice mind, just doesn't live up to the bottle.

I loved the shape of the bottle! the drink wasn't what I'd heard. People would say it's really sweet...but mine wasn't, it was just right. Maybe mine was flat... -shrugs- anyways but it was good I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS DRINK!!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Smells like bubblegum & tastes lemonade =D 19 Dec, 2005
Reviewer: Risa Sugisaki from London
This drink is fantastic, what more could you ask for- bubblegum flavoured lemonade- and the bottle is just a classic- the only problem is that you can't really drink through a straw while using the bottle because the glass marble gets in the way.

5 out of 5 stars Taste of summer 6 Oct, 2005
Reviewer: A customer from London
Another nostalgic item for me - especially reminding me of firework displays by the beach with stalls full of iced Ramune. Think of it as a Japanese take on the Western lemonade (what with our love of all things sweet, it had to have a mouthwatering sweet flavour). Oh, and back then, it was possible to get that glass ball out of the bottle without smashing.

Can you believe a bottle design patented in 1872 would still be in use today!! The inventor of this bottle Was a certain Hiram Codd, you can check out some originals on the UK antique bottle collecting website http://grimdigger1.proforumhost.com

Reviewer: A customer from Plymouth
Well first off the bottle is really novel and interesting... the first smell of the drink was interesting also...very funky smell... Never one to be daunted however I took a sip and was very nicely surprised. Supersweet may not be to everyone's taste but it was delicious to me. A great present for someone... a real talking point.

3 out of 5 stars I finally have it! 9 Feb, 2005
Reviewer: marshmellowminx@hotmail.com from UK
Oddly, when I tried to find it in Japan, it was nowhere to be seen... The bottle is interesting, although I'm not sure what the marble contributes, as it just sits between the ridges half-way up the bottle - I hope mine's not broken. And the drink is similar to lemonade, but very sweet. In fact, its almost powdery, like a very much more synthetic tasting Moutain Dew. Hmmm, not sure if I like it, but I do like the novel bottle, even if it isn't much use.

5 out of 5 stars yummy, fun and fizzy! 26 Jan, 2005
Reviewer: Sabina- sabbaroo@hotmail.com from England
Superfizzy, this is like champagne for kids. It tastes sort of like lemonade but sweeter and lighter. The marble opening is just as much fun as cybercandy says it is- I've kept the bottle on my windowsill.

5 out of 5 stars This stuff is amazing! 22 Jan, 2005
Reviewer: Gelfo (Gelfo@members.v21.co.uk) from London, UK
It's everything everybody says it is, and then some. The drink itself is addictive in a strange kind of way as it tastes like nothing available on these shores. And the unique bottle is pure genius. This will from here on be a regular in my household.

Let me just say that this stuff is amazing. Once you get used to its acquired (tastes a little synthetic) taste, you'll constantly want more of this delicious drink. :D

This drink is the best. I love it. First time I tried it my friends played a joke on me and told me to open it without the little green cap. After they gave it to me, I opened it and it was awesome. Reminds me of Dreamcast.

My girlfriend is a fan of this site and, while my own taste for unusual sweets is not great, the epic journey involved in accessing the drink was enough to make me curious. Its fun to play with and it actually tastes good. Men who take things apart- this is for you!
